Yasuko Suzuki studied calligraphy for the first time in New York in1980. Then she introduced the art of western calligraphy to Japan by publishing ‘Calligraphy Nyumon’(Japan Times Ltd.), the first book on the topic written in Japanese in 1984. She Joined many workshops of famous calligraphers from Europe and America in New York where she was living in between 1985 and 1993. During that period she also developed a fascination with the art of brush writing, especially with its versatility. She started to teach brush writing when she returned to Tokyo in 1993, and she’s still teaching and designing letters and creating original works.
